Making a long-term play, the billionaire industrialist Charles Koch and his like-minded friends on the right are increasingly focused on melding the minds of the next generation by making massive, targeted investments in both K-12 and higher education.

Changing the education system as we know it was a central focus of a three-day donor seminar that wrapped up late last night at a resort here in the desert outside Palm Springs.

“We’ve made more progress in the last five years than I had in the last 50,” Koch told donors during a cocktail reception.

“The lowest hanging fruit for policy change in the United States today is K-12,” said Stacy Hock, a major Koch donor who has co-founded a group called Texans for Educational Opportunity. “I think this is the area that is most glaringly obvious.”

Not good. Also the education nonsense they threw in the tax bill is bound to cause even more problems. This isn't about education this is clearly about money and labor laws.

This caught my attention:
The Charles Koch Institute distributed roughly $100 million to 350 colleges and universities last year, up sevenfold over the past five years.
Found this:
The faculty senate at Wake Forest University tried unsuccessfully last spring to stop a $3.7 million Koch gift for the Eudaimonia Institute, which studies “human flourishing”—including physical wellness and economic success. Their report on the proposed center described at length the Koch brothers’ political donations and, in capital letters, referenced their “unprecedented and well-documented effort to co-opt higher education for ideological, political and financial ends.”

Mr. Hardin said efforts to stop the donations are counter to schools’ missions of supporting academic freedom.

And that seems to be the point here: at the end of the day, money talks...not self aggrandizing speeches.

They are super villains. They took over a few departments at Florida State. Had a good friend who went down the libertarian black hole due to what they were teaching. Eventually led to him being an alt-righter/racist

One thing to give money, another to attach strings and curriculum requirements to it. In a time when colleges are strapped and ready to spread their cheeks due to mostly Republican policy

According to New Yorker writer Jane Mayer, Koch partnered with William Rhodes Davis to build the third-largest oil refinery serving the Third Reich, a project which was personally approved by Adolf Hitler.[15] Koch President and COO David L. Robertson acknowledged that Winkler-Koch provided the cracking unit for the 1934 Hamburg refinery, but said that it was but one of many "iconic" American companies doing business in Germany at the time.[16]
