That’s still not going to win championships. For instance Tom Brady never had an interception percentage over 2.9% his first year as a starter. And hasn’t had an interception % over 2.0 since 2009. In fact we always call Brett Favre a gunslinger who took a lot of ill advised risks but Marino was barely any better. Career 3.3 interception percentage for Favre compared to Marino’s 3%. It gets really ugly when it gets to the playoffs. 32 tds to 24 interceptions.

Dan Marino was also 4-14 and 0-3 in the playoffs vs the Buffalo Bills from 1985-1992. Their division rival. A team that would get clobbered by the NFC 3 out of their 4 SB appearances.
The point of them not winning championships has more everything to do with their front office failures

He threw too many interceptions. Doesn’t matter how nice your arm is or how many dimes you throw, if you are giving the ball back to the other team you are going to struggle. 4 of his first 7 seasons he threw over 20 interceptions. 3 of those seasons were up there with the best of all-time but he never reached those heights again.
That's egregious in the last 20 years or so but wasn't 20 INTs normal in the 80s?

It was. Marino threw INTs at a higher than league average in only 2 of his 17 seasons.

Marino did have his share of bad games in the postseason so you can criticize him for those games, but those teams had serious issues.

Teams would ran all over them in the postseason. They gave up over 300 yards in the ground in one postseason loss to Buffalo, and numerous others where they gave up over 200 on the ground.

If somebody is being called the GOAT I don’t want them anywhere league average in interception percentage.

Eh look up how many Ints Farve, Elway, Jim Kelly, Dan Fouts, Namath have and compare

Different era too wasn’t until they change the rules up did Peyton INts drop dramatically check his first few seasons

When that player throws 100 to 200 more passes attempts than league average? Magic Johnson used to lead the NBA in turnovers damn near every year. was that not a byproduct of handling the ball more than anyone else in the league?

Yall dont be making sense man.

The stat he was referencing was interception percentage. Not total interceptions. So that logic don’t work here.

Same way most people reference assist to turnover ratio to determine if players turn it over too much.

You can have all the arm talent in the world (Marino is top 5). Decision making matters. It’s like Herbert and Josh Allen now. They can make all the games and if you go off highlights they look like all time greats. But until they clean up their decision making it won’t matter which is where the GOATS separate themselves.

His interception percentage was mid. That’s the point. And he wasn’t and didn’t have the luxury of playing in these dink and dunk, charlie weis, extended handoff four yard passing offenses. He wasn’t in the west coast offense with a bunch of safe throws and overinflated completion percentages. He and Jim Kelly were pushing the ball downfield. He was throwing the ball more than any qb in the league in the most one dimensional offense in the NFL Yet was mid in int percentage.

That is remarkable
