So, for 50 years Democrats have allowed our government to be compromised by Republican authoritarianism in exchange for policy changes while they see themselves and the working class slowly weakened in the process.
In my lifetime:
- They let Nixon slide on what really got him impeached to the point the average American now thinks Watergate was about a hotel break-in and Nixon "wasn't all that bad."
- They let Reagan slide on Iran-Contra-Cocaine to the point that he's some affable old man and not the doddering, racist Alzheimer's-addled scumbag he was.
- They let Bush slide on lying to the American people to sell the Iraq invasion. I would argue that Bush has more scandals than any President in my lifetime even worse than Trump. Dude had a gay, fake-credentialed prostitute asking questions during press conferences and making hundreds of overnight visits to the White House.
- They're now letting Trump slide on Jan 6th. Even Trump's first impeachment was a watered down focus on a single illegal phone call. He had probably a half dozen fronts they could have presented evidence on; e.g. emoluments violations.
