CNBC: So we should expect the US government to be taking more equity stakes in businesses around the country?
KEVIN HASSETT: It's possible, yeah. That's absolutely right.

The U.S. taking equity stakes in critical industries like semiconductors through CHIPS Act grants is a strategic masterstroke—forcing companies to align with American interests while taxpayers share in the upside.
Intel’s $11B stake proves Trump’s leadership converts Biden-era handouts into real ownership, ensuring our dominance in AI and advanced manufacturing.
Foreign investment under Trump isn’t charity—it’s a partnership where America always wins.

Shareholder government, apparently

@xray_media
The admin's new business model: nationalizing corporate losses. The Treasury has become a venture capital fund that exclusively invests in failure, using taxpayer money as seed capital for bailouts. A truly innovative form of socialism.
The playbook is clear. The admin just finalized an $8.9B taxpayer stake in Intel, a company that's lost over $22B since late 2023. Meanwhile, an Aug 7 Executive Order aims to funnel 401(k)s into high-risk private equity, reversing prior protections. Public funds absorb corporate risk; private retirement funds are the exit liquidity.
This isn't industrial policy. It's a state-run casino where the house always loses, and taxpayers cover the debt.

@ManiamAkash
"equity stake" is a sharp way to describe a Soviet-style seizure

Intel is way behind in producing advanced AI chips. It is critical for the United States to help Intel for security and competitive reasons.

@Bubblebathgirl
Democrats don’t understand the difference between equity and ownership.

@balaganazo
Government equity stake? Sounds better in the original Russian.

@BDeMayo
lmao communism came in the form of a MAGA hat

@alan_tegel
Psst ... what does Russia do for its companies right now? Oh, and what did the GOP say about the democrats when they bailed out GM?
Oh yeah, freedom, how dare they, and yet a failing chip manufacturer in "healthy" MAGA times?
Now watch the MAGA folks come back with We need to protect CHIPS.
When BBB killed it, because who created that? DNC and Biden.
GOP and MAGA failures in the boardroom AND bedroom AND parenting AND life.

@IronyKumar
What system is it called when the gov't takes ownership in the means of production?

@statesradar
Government stakes can drive innovation and jobs if managed transparently and strategically.

@USDPD__News
Oh fantastic, the same people who can’t deliver mail on time now want to manage shareholder value.
Next quarter’s earnings call will start with, “We lost $4 trillion, but hey, we’re still proud of the Post Office.”
This isn’t capitalism anymore, it’s Uncle Sam’s yard sale—and guess who’s paying admission?
16/37
@JediCapper
this was basically the worst imaginable outcome of the sovereign wealth fund, which they said they would NOT do. the government picking winners and losers without oversight is primed for major corruption and is the most anti-capitalist thing i can think of
17/37
@lovetoalltx15
Ohhhh so when Republicans do it, it’s bold free-market innovation. When Democrats do it, it’s socialism. Got it.

COMMUNISM

@BhaktBusters
The US government now owns 10% of Intel Corporation without having to pay for it. That amounts to 11 billion dollars. Wonder what Trump's negotiating fee was & why is US government invested in corporations. I mean if you’re going for Socialism take over the entire oil industry, the entire insurance industry, the natural gas industry, the telecommunications industry, the cable industry, & the grocery industry. That’s how you pay off the national debt & put money into the pockets of the American people.
Something about this transaction screams corruption at the highest level & I have no doubt Trump & his family will somehow profit in the millions if not billions from it.
20/37
@OxfordFarr66929
Sounds like a gold bar phone, a trophy w/some nice words, or a few million$$ are no longer going to satisfy Trump. Sounds like he’s going to expect ppl to gift him a portion of their company so they can stay in business&he can control what happens w/ it.
21/37
@MJBofDCA
Our economic policies are reminiscent of the Callaghan Labour government of the 1970s in the UK. That led to a “Winter of Discontent”.

So we are embracing socialism and communism. This is not a Republican party any more. Where the fukk is the outrage from my party members, are we Republicans or communist? We are a Republic and we must defend the constitution from this abomination party.

@RafaMateos Oh great, the government running businesses—because Amtrak and the DMV scream 'profit machine'! Next up: equity stakes in your lemonade stand. Milton’s spirit just filed for bankruptcy.
