"jailbreaking" originally meant rooting a device but most people use that term now to simply describe sideloading apps outside the official app store on the device.

the benefit is installing apps not available in the amazon app store.

research "debloat" or "debloating" your firestick. it'll likely require connecting your laptop or desktop over wifi though.
