Why is fumble out of the endzone a touchback for the other team?

It makes no sense. Any fumble out of bounds and the same team retains possession, but if it happens to go out of the endzone the other team gets it?

The dumbest rule used to be the force out. Trying to say dude would've came down in bounds.

Defense can't even defend.

But yeah the whole touch back rule is necessary. If it goes out of bounds out the end zone, why would the offense get it back? Where would they mark the ball?

How exactly doesn't it make sense? A fumble out your own end zone is a safety. A fumble out the other teams end zone is a touchback. It's very consistent. A fumble is a live ball.

there are plenty of dumb rules in the NFL and quite honestly in 2015 there are too many dumb rules to even count. this however isn't one of them.
