Full Interview with Creative Director Alexander Mishulinyoutube.com/watch?v=Mx7-ig…
Timeline: Takes place during the first two books (or TV seasons 1, 2, and the first half of 3)
The team came up with the idea internally and then pitched it to Alcon Entertainment
Spent a year prototyping gameplay
When you create your character, you are actually creating two characters. The second one is your twin, who will serve as your first companion
You don't choose your twin's skills/abilities as they have their own personality
No ship combat mini game. Sounds like ship combat will play out through cinematic cutscenes
Not really a traditional class system, more about choosing 'play styles', and that will be at least partially defined during character creation. It's not like Owlcat's previous games where they use an established rule set (like Pathfinder)
Can't change the archetypes of companions as they're established characters that join you because of their skill set. One of the companions is an engineer for example
Companion abilities can be changed to suit your play style, however. Having a flying drone like in the trailer is only one of the options for that engineer companion (there are also multiple drones if you do use the drone)
In addition to weapons, there is also gadget loot
It is possible to play a character that is totally abilities based
Companions are a big pillar of the game, even bigger than their previous games, with their own goals and stories
There is romance with companions
Two companions join you on quests, but other companions can help you from the ship during these quests
You will see the consequences and impacts of events from the books/TV series in the game, such as Holden's decisions during this time, experience the news of the Canterbury being destroyed, etc
Players will visit familiar locations like Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, etc
Players will also meet familiar characters from the books/TV series
Some of the actors from the show will reprise their roles in the game
There is roleplaying freedom but not to an extreme degree, more Mass Effect like. Asked if you can be good or evil, it's more like "good samaritan" vs. "practical, pragmatic and greedy" (likely means you can't go crazy and wipe out entire towns, etc)
When asked if it's linear, open world, or semi open world, answered it's semi open world but only because that's such a 'vague definition' the creative director feels confident in saying
In terms of story, you will experience big story beats in a certain order but there is freedom to visit other places, not a linear experience
Ceres is a hub where you can go talk to a lot of characters
When asked if game length is more like Expedition 33 or their previous games, said it was closer to the former but that it's still a big game
There are "good, bad and weird" consequences to your decisions
Expect lots of political intrigue, seeing the best and worst of humanity
The Protogen is part of the game (obvious from the trailer)
You will face off against a hybrid at some point
The team wants to emphasize how dangerous space is in the gameplay
You can use your mag boots to walk on walls and ceilings
There will be zero-G combat gameplay
