This is one of those pieces where someone writes it in hopes that in a year they can do the old told ya so but most of the time it never happens then the author kind of just shrugs it off as a 'what if' piece later on.

No one cares about Macklemore tho, that's the thing. The guy isn't even brought up anymore and his folky rap songs are not the type to last forever, regardless of the topic or content of the song. Outside of Eminem and The Beastie Boys every other white Hip Hop act came and went in the mainstream. Macklemore has, Iggy will. Just like Vanilla Ice did. Fred Durst's attempt at yell rapping went away. Bubba Sparx went back to the bud...Everlast didn't last...

I hope you're right fam. It's been a slow process of the "infiltrators" but it doesn't look good.

the black cat is my crown...
i expect there will be growing success of white rappers... but that genre of music will be known as pop rap, not hip hop... their audience, culture, sound, and subject matter would be vastly different... real hip hop will always be here and will always be from the hood...

in fact, i kind of hope there is a new genre of white rappers that take over... they can't take the fake white hip hop fans with them.... then we can get back to making good hip hop music again....

I dont think it is the fault of the white rappers..

I think its more that the best "hiphop" originated producers are now straight up pop artists.

Yes but hip hop today has a definite massive white audience now. Labels are basically signing white artists AND giving them the accolades and affiliations to validate them, allowing them to assimilate easily into the culture.

This cat can't form a proper sentence, but he makes some valid points.

Mgk flopped and didn't get a second release
Yelawolf flopped and didn't get a second release
Asher Roth barely sold the first time and 2nd release did 6k first week
Iggy has 1 big hit and that's it

Mac miller has an album that sold less than 500k and another did like 225k. No big hit singles, has a presence but hardly a "takeover"

Macklemore is the only one who should cause this "fear"
4 hits, play album, Grammy award...but we haven't even seen if he can do it again

Tomorrow we will see how g eazy and riff raff will sell. I'm guessing both flop

When music stops being about expressing the black experience, whether we are talking about NWA at one end of the spectrum or Public Enemy on the other end of the spectrum, it's bound to happen.

The music these tight jean feminine rappers are making can be easily duplicated and given a white face who will sell more anyway.

When we don't even have "urban" fashion anymore and everyone dresses like white skate boarders and hipsters and talks upscale fashion labels, then a black artist can be easily replaced by a white face who will have more appeal to an already majority white rap fan base.
