This is a common tactic by republicans to save money they can spend in ways to enrich themselves when the next Republican president is elected.

Republicans figured out decades ago than they can get away with deficit spending when they're in power because it's actually popular, then switch to austerity when Dems are in power so that it's the Democrats who take the blame for the deficit blowing up and it's their responsibility to fix it.

"Fiscally responsible conservative/republican"

Fiscally "repesponsible" when it comes to spending money to help middle and working class Americans (usually results in crazy amounts of cuts), but non-fiscally responsible when it comes to enriching themselves and the corporations funding them (usually results in major corporate welfare, deregulation, and criminal/corrupt behavior).

Those are useless charts. Outliers invalidate them.

Both Trump and Obama had global cataclysms to deal with so obviously spending would decrease after those once in a lifetime events subsided.

Obama was fortunate to start his career with a cataclysm that gradually dissipated with time. Trump was unlucky to have COVID hit at the tail end of his term. Both events required legendary amounts of spending.

A similar argument could be made for bush dealing with 9-11/terrorism.the usefulness of the chart basically ends after Clinton who was indeed an extraordinary president with a relatively stable presidency.

Democrats been cleaning up Republicans mess for decades, and I don't even really think the debt and deficit matter like that. Republicans raid programs like social, do massive tax cuts for the rich, and start wars that took 20 years to end but somehow people think Republicans are better with the economy. :mjlol:
