The Feds Stepping in on McDonald's Broken Ice Cream Machines

The federal government is considering a proposal to grant McDonald’s franchise owners the ability to use a third-party hacking device to address persistent issues with their ice cream machines. This move comes after the fast-food giant faced a lawsuit for not permitting such actions.

The Federal Trade Commission and the antitrust unit of the Department of Justice have submitted a request to the US Copyright Office seeking an exemption to copyright law. This exemption would enable business owners to carry out repairs on their “commercial and industrial equipment” in a more efficient manner.

The federal authorities have stated that the restriction on business owners to hire third-party repair people hampers competition and leads to higher repair costs. These comments were filed on Thursday as part of the ongoing discussions regarding the exemption to Section 1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). (: @gettyimages)

It has something to do with being a franchisee of McDonalds. You have to buy the ice cream machine they tell you to buy and its only from one company and the company is real shady with how the machine works. They break often so the company charges you to fix it and they keep a lot of the instructions on how to properly care for the machines away from the franchise owners.

SOme 3rd party company created a hack that goes into the machine and will tell you all the info on the machine however the company that makes the machines sued this 3rd party company and thats what all this stems from
