The PlayStation 2 Officially Dies Today

"The reason for this article is that today, Final Fantasy XI’s servers are officially shutting down on the legendary console. This marks the last online functionality for the PS2, which is unfortunately the send off of an era."

Damn man, it's kinda crazy to think the best console that there'll ever be or has ever been is really done. I know it basically got kicked to the side with no backwards compatibility of the PS3 in 2009, but shyt man I was still playing this bytch in 2010 (I copped Infinite World real late, nice closure to the Budokai series).

I hope one day we see another Sony console that can touch the greatness set by the GOAT :wow:

I played FFXI on PS2 from like 2003 til 2008. I got it on PC and the game was so much smoother. I retired my account in 2011.. spent wayears too much time on that game. I was legendary on my server.

actually the PS3 had full backwards capability with the OG versions in 2006. my first PS3 was fully backwards compatible. and to be honest, I RARELY even used that feature. by the time my OG PS3 got the YLOD, I didn't really even care anymore about no longer having the feature.

I know, the 2009 slim version eliminated that feature, ergo making PS2 games pretty much worthless (a large group of people don't plug two consoles into their TV, especially when both use the same cords)
