It's not an actual battle seeing as how you can't lose and you can't be damaged, it doesn't add anything to the overall story. It's just sort of there.
The only purpose I can image it serving is it allows people who never got that particular limit break to see it, beyond that it's really just a pointless.
The battle is actually a battle in cloud's mind where he is battling sephiroth in order vanquish the influence he had over the entire course of the game. They added omnislash just to be a cool attack for us viewers, it does hold value.
But then why have it as a faux battle, why not just do that as a cinema?
I guess it would be less work on Square's part if they made it a faux battle, they could reuse animations, and cinema you gotta make that from scratch, but that just my opinion.

I just remember the first time I played through the game I thought I got lucky or some shyt with a glitch. Then I played through a second time and realized shyt ends the same way no matter what and you can't lose. Then over the years shyt just came across as the weakest quick time event ever.

. Then I saw the Limit bar light up and Cloud let off the Omnislash which I never used in the entire game. I can't remember whether that was his level 4 or if Knights of the Round was, I think the Knights of the Round had something to do with Chocobo raising but anyway I went from
