The industry was changing. COVID-19 just sped up the process. AMC is livid over Universal wanting to release some movies in theaters and PVOD, but they had video on demand for older movies for maybe a year now. I think their next step after A-List started being profitable, was to try PVOD. Even if Apple and Amazon purchased a big chain movie theater like AMC, AMC isn't everywhere. Their movies would still need other theater chains to maximize profit.
