It's plenty of categories that either can't of have an almost impossible path to win GOTY. Racing games, fighting games, sports games, puzzle games, MMOs for example. GOTY is like NFL MVP. If you aren't a certain category of player that award ain't for you really.

If 2K put poured their heart into an NBA 2K game and cut the crap and it was a 10/10 experience no way it wins GOTY and it's unlikely to even get a nomination.

TYRONE GA!
All these games highly rated games released this year and Sony published like 2 and grabbed up 19 nominations :mjpls: but it's clear why, especially with one being from kojima.

If E33 wasn't a lock it's clear who would be winning goty again :mjlol:
nikka shut up :what:

Well if 2k actually tried to make the myplayer a well told story that follows your player from high school all the way up to winning your first ring and there was actually cutscenes that happen after you get to the league. Hell maybe make it a requirement to win ROY or lead the league is a category to get 100% completion. If they made just a 10 hour story with storyline necessary mini games and side missions. Yea they would get a nomination for something

But that will never happen

You are actively ignoring additional points of context and nuance to continue yelling at a cloud about a game you like and called niche being treated like a niche game. I'm not even sure what it is you actually want.

If you look at Metacritic pages for both Avowed and Trails, Avowed has more than double the critic reviews. If the metric that you are obsessed with doesn't tell you that this is about one game having wider reach than the other, I don't know what to tell you.

I'm sure Trails is a great game, but I think maybe the takeaway here is figuring out how a bunch of Frenchmen managed to make a turn based RPG that appealed even to people that don't like those types of games (which, oddly enough, isn't all that hard to figure out)instead of trying to build some sort of anti genre game narrative.

i've fallen out with gaming. will i like E33 if i don't usually play RPGs? I tried to play elden ring and it didnt grab me.

Yes. The presentation (art direction, voice acting, writing, soundtrack, etc.) is so high quality it has crossed over into demographics that don't usually play turn based RPGs.

Not to mention it has action elements (dodging, free aim, parrying, etc.) so it's not just a turn based RPG.

idk why @winb83 is acting like Metaphor wasn't literally just the GOTY favorite a year ago, on top of winning Best Narrative & RPG

this year is stacked af, it's really not any deeper than that

to prop up the 78th tales game to come out :dead:

series is damn near high grade shovelware

Yeah it's just me no JRPG released in the past 11 years has ever been good enough or deserving to win GOTY at The Game Awards and it's that simple. It isn't possibly that this is one of many overlooked genres.

It's only logical that a game that has an 80 score on average gets a nomination for best RPG released that year. I guess I just failed to see that 80 is the new 90.
