Just took the GMAT for the first time this past afternoon.

Got a 620. 68th percentile
40 Quantitative 50th percentile :snoop:
36 Verbal 80th percentile

Still waiting on my Integral Reasoning and AWA scores.

Not bad for a first timer still in undergrad and right in range with my practice tests.

I'm taking it as a requirement for a BBA/MBA program in Accounting that I'm already in, but if I wasn't in this program I'd want to take it over. 620 is good enough for 2nd tier b-schools and lower elite b-schools, but ideally I'd like as close to 700 as possible and get that quant score up to at least 45.

All I needed was a 520 so I'm good. A 520 is slightly below the mean.

What have your experiences been like?

Took the GRE

Did really well on the Quantitative Section (800). Pretty well on the Verbal (620). Decent on the writing too (5).

Took it about three years ago before they changed the scoring system.

Took the computerized version.

I thought I was doing well on the Quant section and then I ran into question #19. Swear I spent 10 minutes on that and had to rush to finish the rest. I just didn't understand what they were asking. Though I had screwed it all up and then I got my score and couldn't believe it.

Took the GMAT twice. first time, I had prepared with 5 practice tests and I took it on no sleep. got a 610. took it a month later in the afternoon with a solid nights sleep and got a 690 even though I fukked up and ran out of time on the quant section because I lost track of time. I plan on taking it again within the next year when I start applying for MBA programs and I'm going to prepare a lot more this time.

My advice based on my experience is to get a good nights sleep because you really need to be as mentally sharp as possible to score well. If youre not a morning person, schedule your exam for the afternoon. it will pay off.

What school are you trying to go to? Honestly unless you want to go to Harvard, Stanford, MIT, NYU or another top 10 b-school you're good depending on what your Quant score is.

I was in the 90th percentile on the GMAT and really didn't study that much. The only part you really need to study for is the math section. I didn't realize that you couldn't use a calculator until I got to the testing location :snoop: I was disappointed in my math score, but, honestly, the rest of the test is pretty easy.

I bought the Manhattan GMAT books and went through them for about 3-4 weeks before the test. Scored a 740, but only because my Verbal was 99 percentile. Concentrate on that too because you can push up your score more easily than with the quants since the Chinese and Indians dominate that shyt. If you have a 80+ percentile in quant with a 700+ overall and worked in something reasonably quant, that should be fine with the vast majority of top 15 schools.

I cant really help you on which books are the best. I didn't really study for either exam that I took. I only took the practice tests. In hindsight, it probably would have been very helpful.
