Entire animal species are getting wiped off the map because of climate change! :dahell:

How can you even profit from the environment being uninhabitable?

In many ways, you can profit from it.
We live in a world that sells water

EVERY time we point out shyt like this the bootlickers come in and say, "It's not capitalism's fault". Even though capitalism literally requires that resources be used up at ever-increasing pace or the system will collapse.

That used to be a "feature" because they said that it "spurred development". They haven't realized that they've taken it too far and are too attached to the system to see that it has to be junked or we're screwed.
It's brainwashing from an early age by a barrage of propaganda created by the elite classes to make people willing to die to defend their ill gotten gains. I was watching a lecture by Richard Wolf and he said that at most colleges when he was coming up, they didn't even discuss socialism or alternative views of economics. This, of course, is intentional to get good little drones to go out in the world and keep perpetuating the system. The US has been a key component in quashing leftist movements globally.

China and a bunch of countries been on this wave:

China basically has a crazy initiative right now and have made insane progress and it's only phase 1:

Either it's the same plant or a similar species, but it's done things like this to some places around China. There are some plant species that are very aggressive and difficult to get rid of. Perhaps planting these in the desert may do something.

A problem we face is not only is that not only is our population a fraction of China's so we have less manpower.

The main problem is a certain major party that would be against this because it wasn't their idea.

That's how ridiculous politics is. They don't want to get that label "Oh you're copying China?" Even if it's 100% for their best interest.

Everyone sees it, like many in this thread, but nobody is doing anything about it although it's impacting their people the most. Insanity.

that shyt takes time and foresight. a lake will need a lot of time to come back once it's gone and the water needs it served will continue to be the same if not more.

we got some harsh lessons in the future and it's not so distant.

We don't listen to experts, that's our problem imo.

Environment and job market for A.I are things we've fallen behind on.

People are failing to see those aren't happening in the future, those is are here, right now and we're down bad.

People been talking about UBI due to automation for the last decade, absolutely ignored.

How do you think things will play out? Obviously our economic model of endless growth isn't changing anytime soon.

I think the only way out is a form of socialism, preferably libertarian socialism, where we rework the economic incentives. Constant-growth models aren't necessary for people to have good lives, they're only necessary for a economic system built on money creation via loans-at-interest (requiring constant expansion because the payments due on the loans are always greater than the money initially loaned) and where those with the most wealth and desire to build wealth have the greatest power over resources. We need to move to negative-interest economy, UBI, and greater community control over resources including possibly shifting to a money creation via environmental preservation system.

Will that happen though? It appears the imagination for it is lacking because people are so conditioned. Because the issues are becoming so obvious, I think we'll keep battling between uncontrolled capitalism and more-controlled capitalism for several decades, leading to increasing resource depletion, climate catastrophes, and wealth inequality, before a generation bright enough to finally change the system grows up.

Yup, I wrote a long-ass comment once on just how long overt capitalist propaganda has been around.

I just stumbled upon this and it made me think of the guy who claimed pro-capitalism propaganda wasn't a thing until Reagan. :mjlol:

This is 1948:

Went looking for some others:

They even used Charlie Brown to promote consumerism as a national duty.

It looks like the term "capitalist propaganda" actually originated in 1929, though the concept existed long before then:

The Trade Union Unity League, founded in 1929, was targeted in a US government "Investigation of Communist Propaganda" in 1930, in which their objectives and ideologies were outlined as an exhibit or example in their investigation. Within this report, the League used the term capitalist propaganda several times. The Trade Union Unity League dedicated a section to the "Oppression of Negroes" and described how Black Americans were "the most bitterly exploited and oppressed section of the American working class" because they had to accept the worst working conditions and lowest paying jobs in addition to a system of lynching, Jim Crowism, segregation, and political disenfranchisement. The League then wrote how "the standards of living of the working class, despite the tremendous increases in industrial productivity and notwithstanding all the capitalist propaganda to the contrary, tend to decline."[6]

Later in the report, the League describes how the American Federation of Labor worked against the interests of the working class, despite their appearance, because "they sell out and break strikes; they poison the minds of the workers with capitalist propaganda," and they otherwise defend the interests of the capitalist class, despite being a federation of labor unions. Another section on "Against Capitalist Rationalization" described the League's position on rationalization for the ideology of capitalism, as follows:

Acknowledging the historical record, contemporary scholars continue using the term to describe, what Michael J. Vavrus refers to as, a nearly 150-year-long campaign of capitalist propaganda "to demonize political economy alternatives to the dominance of corporate capitalism."

This cartoon is from all the way back in 1909. And no, it was NOT just some sort of British "nationalist" stance, it had nothing to do with other countries. It was in response to a bill that was proposed to increase income tax and property taxes in order to fund old age pensions.

Socialism_Throttling_the_Country.jpg

But it really took off in America in the 1940s via the Ad Council:

There was a bunch more discussion of it in that thread including Martin Luther King Jr. railing against all the capitalist propaganda he'd had to grow up with in his era.

Thanos was right.

Thanos's "solution" would be useless. The average American uses 200x more resources than the average Ethiopian. Even in America you easily have situations where one person uses 10x as many resources as another, and that's not even counting the ultra-rich. Kill half the world's population and the other half will just ramp up their consumption to make up the difference.

So long as there are giant corporations whose power depends on the need to constantly increase sales, then population is irrelevant. They need to increase their volume no matter how many people live here. If we don't do something about loans-at-interest money creation and the profit motive, then no stopcap will work.
