YouTube cut all that back. If you start using excessive profanity or talking about mature themes they either drop you down to the second rate ad tier or demonetize you all together.
Is this a result of people like PewDiePie and JonTron exposing their white supremacist beliefs and alienating advertisers from Youtube?
No not really. Adverts found out they were being placed on channels promoting shyt like terrorism and other things

no its how YouTube is thinning the herd so that they can push their paid content. Youtube TV/Red whatever you call it.
The little bit of money smaller channels get is the motivation to keep making content but they won't be seeing anything in return as youtube keeps raising the eligibility bar so they'll most likely just leave. Only people with large millions of subs are going to see any kind of money.
The bar is considerably higher now before YouTube allows monetization.
those guys will never get demonetized no matter what. If you bring millions of people to youtube they are not going to want to get rid of you.
