This thread was made for me. I've been going through all of NIN this summer. There's really nothing that I can say that hasn't been said before. Although I really like Pretty Hate Machine, it's crazy. It's really dance-y and I can appreciate that. Same reason I liked Hesitation Marks. The title's silly, Reznor isn't an angsty young man anymore but it works just fine. If he was trying to make another Fragile or whatever I'd be like come the fukk on Trent but hey luckily it wasn't that. Haven't given How to Destroy Angels a listen though.

I've also become a huge Marilyn Manson fan for no reason, those first 4 albums are a great run. I tried to listen to his 6th, I think, couldn't get through it. His latest one, Born Villain, isn't terrible but it's nowhere near as good as his earlier work. I think my favorite has to be Mechanical Animals, which is really more of a pop album but a really good one. I missed the boat on all this, I was a kid in the 90s so this shyt passed me by. Would've been great to have been a part of the zeitgeist.

I actually listened to Disintegration just yesterday. Overall, looking at the music I've been listening to, I can conclude that this has been one depressing-ass summer.

I'm Reznor stan, so I only like the first two Marylin-produced albums, but The Dope Song was piff:myman:

...sidebar, I wish Aaliyah did get to work with Trent:ohlawd:

And, this is smooth industrial music that you could easily nod your head to:banderas:

Some darkwave and coldwave

I'm looking for more darkwave stuff to get into but I think I mostly like the music more when it has female vocalists.

I'm bumping this because I just found out about Youth Code, who are opening for Skinny Puppy on their new tour

(the video's kind of silly, I guess hipsters are getting into industrial now?)

Touring with Skinny Puppy is appropriate since that's the big vibe I'm getting out of their music. They've been getting some attention from non-industrial exclusive sources so maybe this is the contemporary electro-industrial band that's gonna save the genre who knows

The lack of the gathering in this thread is tragic

disintegration is the best album of the 80s tho :ehh:

man even though there's a lot of albums that give it a run and i'll never settle on one, disintegration is one of the top albums for sure

those beautiful songs make me believe in love again:to:

I always thought it wr was a pretty good album but I turned that shyt on one night after a girl I was stupidly infatuated with (she was gothic as hell to :pachaha: ) pretty much told me swerve. Breh as soon as plainsong came on it was a mixture of :wow::dwillhuh::blessed::whoo::snoop::pacspit:

by the time disintegration finally closed out (since I made mine with that as the last track) I'm quite sure the only expression I had on my face was:mjcry:

its funny how listening to music in a certain state can make you appreciate more forever.

same shyt with totbl, rock that shyt on a rainy day on the bus back in 09 and it changed my life.

to this day i can't listen to 'pictures of you' without the feelings coming back, it's too damn real

(thread-appropriate: another time i had one of those "damn...this is real" moments when listening to music was listening to the downward spiral, when you hear 'a warm place' and it goes into 'eraser' and i'm like, shyt this is exactly what depression is like)

i've never heard of The Gathering but reading a bit it looks like they were influenced by Dead Can Dance, who started out as post-punk/goth but then moved on to crazier amazing shyt

their first album is more traditional

but then you keep going and you run into this

all of their albums are fairly different and at a certain point it all becomes more world music than post-punk/goth though still very good
