Depending on what Melo does, it will be about the same. Bron is probably still going to steamroll since there is no one other than a Melo in Chicago that could slow him down.
Pacers probably have a better shot at it than they did this year

East not winning shyt. Cavs or Pacers will make the Finals because there's literally no other contender in the East, then that team gets blown out in 5 games to whatever West team makes it out.

There is no such thing now as waiting for next year's offseason. Every Eastern GM is looking at the field as wide open w/ no clear favorite(Unless Kev Love is traded to Cleveland).
What that means is an arms race of acquiring assets to compete in the coming year's playoffs.Now, things will start to slow down again if Melo does sign w/ Chicago. That would make them a clear favorite and any team who would be attempting to jump into the race for "being a contender" would dramatically slow down.
However, if Melo resigns w/ NY, that arms race would intensify ever greater considering there would be the most parity in the East in a long time. Player to watch out for.... Lance Stephenson. He can turn one of the remaining teams into a true competitor in the East.
