AEW is literally the next deal up in 2027. The forthcoming quote means a large increase by every common sense metric. TKO can’t kill AEW

From the UFC paramount article :

But if Ellison wanted to showcase his willingness to spend on sports, UFC was basically his only chance.

“As an operator, you can’t wait,” said Shapiro. “You’ve got to be ready to spend. If we’re gone, what’s left?”

When I asked Ellison if the scarcity of sports rights factored into his thinking, he said, “Absolutely.”

“It’s a unicorn asset that comes up once a decade,” he said.

What's gonna help or hurt TKO is how fans react to WWE since it makes up about 50% of the company. But it has more day to day impact versus UFC. Especially considering the changes in programming constantly. UFC be the same shyt every show. You gonna get the same fights. It's like sports, they play the game of baseball the same way every night for the entire season, nothing changes. But with WWE and pro wrestling, it varies week to week. So having fans lose interest in a product can hurt the company especially if a lot of them do. Also can't be overspending too much, and not to mention fact that they got shareholders to worry about and all that stuff. Way different than a private company.

They did some recent cuts and who knows how much more they will do in the near future if their debt is high.

Not that familiar with TNA but don't think they have much going for them outside of the NXT partnership. We shall see how it all plays out.

Looking at Financials and Latin America is fourth against North America, Europe, and Asia for revenue. So TK should focus on that and try to get more fan interest from that market. Have Mercedes go down there and collect another belt from one of their promotions. :troll:

But seriously getting more exposure there def will help. Hangman speaks Spanish and is the champ so he can be like an ambassador.

I wonder how much of that is just México though. I have no clue if AEW going to Brazil (a huge market) is feasible. Any other country in South America is basically a once every two years type of market, if you come back too soon, it will be diminishing returns every time. WWE did in the late 00s and early 2010's and then just stopped coming :heh:

My best guess is that TKO is pissed they can't buy AEW (as of today at least) because what happens nowadays is that a big companies buys their competition and consolidates. As long as TK is alive and financially stable, there's no chance he sells AEW, and that's gotta piss TKO off :pachaha:

Fans also spend way too much time trying to be armchair studio execs. It's up to Tony Khan (and possibly his father) to figure out whether they stay with Warner Bros. or move to Amazon or spread their content around to different places etc. It's not up to the fans to try to figure out

The backstage stuff been more interesting than what’s on tv since I started watching wrestling, you wouldn’t be here if you disagree. I definitely see AEW having its programming more spread out to not get boxed in by TKO.

That and TKO needs to shave costs and eliminate debt which means they need to be able to pay wrestlers minimum wage like they do the UFC fighters

I bet that’s the primary reason for this. I never seen WWE straight up outbid for wrestlers they want until Tony Khan entered the fray. I imagine WWE wants to right size their pay structure more like UFCs, where the top stars get top money, no more million dollar mid carders and low card and developmental makes less than me

Likely heavily reliant on Mexico. Plus also not seeing a breakdown of where the revenue is coming from like merch or live events just the two separate companies, they started doing it like that after the merger in 2023. About 1.4B for each in 2024.
