Uncertain grounds
Robin Lopez fired back at his brother Brook Lopez during a recent interview.

"I usually let my game do the talking. If anything, I just have to warn him to not to come to the [Moda Center]," said Robin. "Just don't even bother stepping foot in there because it's going to be an embarrassment from start to finish... My mom's already rooting for me." The verbal sparing started when Brook was asked to describe his brother in 25 words or less, to which Brook simply stated, "He's an idiot."

Robin Lopez Responds To His Brother Brook Calling Him An ‘Idiot’ And A ‘Moron’

In a recent interview with the New York Post, Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez was asked to describe his twin brother Robin, starting center for the Portland Trail Blazers. Rather than praising the play of his brother or extolling his virtues as a Renaissance Man, Brook opted for the tried-and-true approach of taking a few shots at RoLo, something which should come as no surprise to anyone lucky enough to have sibling.

“Robin’s an idiot,” remarked Brooklyn Lopez. “Robin’s a complete moron.”

Pretty standard fare among brothers, especially identical twin brothers. When asked about the comment made by his brother from the same mother, Robin dusted off one of the all-time great comebacks popularized by noted humorist Pee Wee Herman.

“I mean, I’m going to go back to a common schoolyard retort: It takes one to know one,” said Portland Lopez. “I really expected better from him, something a little more clever, a little wittier. But then again… ”

Brook has long been considered the better basketball player of the two. He was drafted five spots before Robin, makes considerably more money and has been named to an All-Star team. But over the last few seasons, the combination of Robin’s improved play and Brook’s injury issues have narrowed the gap between the twin big men, so much so that one wonders if Brook calling Robin an “idiot” and a “moron” had something to do with losing his status as the best basketball player in the Lopez family. But according to Robin, it’s much more superficial than that.

“I don’t think he’s too concerned with basketball,” said Robin. “I think he’s a little more concerned that he’s not the best looking Lopez. That’s something that would bother him.

New Orleans Hornets v Brooklyn Nets
Brook Lopez called his brother Robin Lopez an “idiot” and a “complete moron,” kicking off my favorite faux feud of the NBA season.

Why did Brook play just 17 games with the Nets last season? Injury played only a part.

Robin, via Jabari Young of CSN Northwest:

“It’s no surprise that they held him out as long as they did last year,” Robin joked after the Blazers beat the Charlotte Hornets. “I’m sure people were just sick of traveling and being around him. So, they probably didn’t want him around the team or anything.”

Someone trade these two to the 76ers, stat.
