most of them probably played college ball and couldn't cut it after that

Yeah now it's more than the NFL, but I think 16 or 17 out of 30 didn't play in the NBA. They played College Basketball but didn't cut in the league or became an assistant coach

Football might be more strategy based than any other sport out there. There are some serious nerds out running these teams at every level.

Mike Leach never played college football yet almost every team in the Big12 runs his offense and he has a huge coaching tree.
