Out of all the artists The Neptunes worked with, they had the best chemistry with Kelis by far. Their styles matched perfectly.

The Neptunes futuristic , video game sounding beats meshed perfectly with Kelis' quirky/eclectic style and off-pitch voice.

The Neptunes were "weird". Kelis was "weird".

The Neptunes beats were not meant for everyone. The Game and Slim Thug come to mind for example. An entire Game album over Neptunes production?? Naw, it wouldn't fit. It wouldn't feel natural. The Game is a street dude, The Neptunes are pop.

Well you may say "but what about the Clipse?" Well I personally always found that pairing to be odd.

While they churned out a couple of great albums for The Clipse, The Neptunes to me are at their best musically when they are their happy, quirky and "weird" selves:

Not doing beats for street dudes and gangster rappers.

I like this song by Jeezy:

But an entire Jeezy over Neptunes album wouldn't sound natural.

I like this song by R&B GOAT Joe:

But again, an entire Joe album over Neptunes production??? No.

This is more Joe's lane:

Hear the difference? The Neptunes more "pop" sounding production wouldn't do a true R&B singer like Joe justice.

Back to Kelis. Kelis was the perfect fit because she was a chameleon like The Neptunes. She was a little bit of everything. She was a little pop, a little R&B, a little punk rock, a little hip-hop.

But most importantly she was strange and quirky as an artist. She fit right in with the Neptunes futuristic and outer-space themes.

The Neptunes + Kelis were a perfect match.

One, Hell Hath No Fury is one of the best rap albums I ever heard.

Two, Listen to Virginia (and to an extent Philly) rappers and that's the flavor, especially in the mid-aughts, 757 was on.

I def' agree that the Neps could've gave them more Nightmares and less Ain't Cha.
