Stole this from someone else but its interesting
About a week or so ago, I commented about a playlist I made which organizes Kanye's discography (mostly his last three albums) into a story. Using some of the feedback and some free time, I created The New Westament, which includes some of his older songs too, and organizes Kanye's discography into three acts, which tell the rise and fall of our protagonist: Yeezus.
Note: When I talk about Kanye in the story, I'm not necessarily talking about Kanye the person. I wouldn't psychoanalyze him just based on his songs. I can psychoanalyze the character that is established in this trilogy, however.
The New Westament: Act I
This is mostly made up of songs from his first three albums, although it has an introduction from MBDTF and ends with one of Kanye's later songs. The arc of Act I is Kanye's rise and adjustment to fame, as Kanye makes it big.
We end with a heartwarming song about Kanye's mentor Jay-Z before jumping into a song about Jay-Z and Kanye running the game. We started the act with Kanye as an up-and-comer, and ended with Kanye on top of the world. It clocks in at just around an hour.
The New Westament: Act II
This is probably the most diverse act, pulling from Graduation, Cruel Summer, Watch the Throne, Yeezus, MBDTF, and Late Registration. This is about Kanye's stay at the top of fame, where we see his ego get out of hand.
All of the Lights ends softer, with the interlude coming after the song (as opposed to the order in the first song). It's where Kanye goes more introspective, and we end with "Gone" off LR. It might seem kind of out of place (and it's the one that I'm least confident about being there). I like ending the act with "They say sorry, Mr. West is gone."
The New Westament: Act III
Now we explore Kanye's depression, taking from 808s, MBDTF, and Yeezus to tell the story of his tragedy.
Power closes out the trilogy because of the implications of the end. The New Westament is the story of the tragedy of Yeezus. He has the power to make his life "so exciting", and that last phrase begins to fade until it sounds like "suicide". And then Kanye talks about jumping out the window and letting everything go. The idea being that our protagonist, after being plagued by depression, self-hate, anger, and heartbreak, takes his own life in the final chapter of the New Westament.
So the idea I had was to kind of organize his discography into a concept playlist, and I ended up doing 3. What do y'all think?
