The African Diaspora International Film Festival will kick off its 30th anniversary season, NYADIFF 2022, on Friday, November 25. Running through December 11, this year’s festival opens with Senuwell Smith and Rodrick F. Wimberly’s “The Woodstock of House,” which celebrates the 25th anniversary of Chicago’s annual Chosen Few Music Festival and the dance music genre born in the city. The festival will close with Jacinto Taras Riddikk’s “A Brother’s Whisper.”

Gala screenings include Roger Ellis’ “Get Out Alive,” Petr Lom’s “Angels on Diamond Street” and Christopher Chambers’ “A Fire Within.”

The slate is made up of 89 narrative and documentary films, spanning 44 countries. New to the lineup is a selection of free community screenings — including Reginald Hudlin’s “Sidney” at Cinema Village — presented in partnership with institutions across the city, such as the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem and Baruch College.

Among the highlights are premieres of Robert Guédiguian’s “Dancing the Twist in Bamako,” Stefan Arsenijević’s “As Far as I Can Walk,” Anna Marbrook’s “Loimata, The Sweetest Tears” and Lázaro Ramos’ “Executive Order.” Programming also features a retrospective of films that won the Public Award for the Best Film Directed by a Woman of Color.

The African Diaspora International Film Festival was founded in 1993 and, according to an announcement, “presents, interprets and educates about films that explore the human experience of people of color all over the world in order to inspire imaginations, disrupt stereotypes and help transform attitudes that perpetuate injustice.”
