Yea they gotta change that, the whole power 5 rule was in place for pac 12 but dont make sense now.. They going to 16 soon anyway but having multiple g5 is a waste..

You're remembering it wrong.

The format was originally 6 best conference champions + 6 other teams. They changed it immediately after the Pac 12 died to the 5 best conference champions, just in time for the first expanded tournament. There was always supposed to be a spot for a smaller conference champion.
