It's that time of year again. 2015 is wrapping up and it doesn't look as though we'll be getting any other big releases in the next few weeks. I always look forward to seeing everybody's year-end lists, so I figured I would make a thread to have them all in one place. Feel free to share your favorite albums and/or songs that have dropped this year. I still gotta put my list together.
My top 5 albums:
1. The Milk - Favourite Worry
2. The Jack Moves - The Jack Moves
3. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly
4. Tuxedo - Tixedo
5. Action Bronson - Mr. Wonderful
Favorite song not on any of those albums:
Dam-Funk - Glyde Tonite
the replay value is insane with it, has some great stand alone tracks(Let it Happen is my track of the year), still listening heavy nearly daily
I really didnt think I would dive into what is essentially a poppy(obviously not full on pop, but you get the point), break up album, but he got me again
Kevin Parker might just be the most talented musician doing it right now, cant wait to see whats next
Album of the Year:
Tame Impala - Currents
Other Top Albums:
Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear
Miguel - Wildheart
Tobias Jesso, Jr. - Goon
Tuxedo - Tuxedo
Alabama Shakes - Sound & Color
Neon Indian - VEGA INTL. Night School
Grimes - Art Angels
Majical Cloudz - Are You Alone?
CHVRCHES - Every Open Eye
Song of the Year:
Tame Impala - Let It Happen
Other Top Songs:
Sufjan Stevens "Carrie & Lowell" --I hesitate to crown an album that requires a specific mood and setting to enjoy maximally. But this album is 43 minutes of the most gut-wrenching and beautiful melody and lyrics that I have heard in years. It was a close battle with the runner-up, but Sufjan takes it with what is by far the best album of his acclaimed career.
Album Of The Year Runner-Up
Tame Impala "Currents"
--Kevin Parker is the best musician in the world. And it isn't even close. Following up the greatest album of the 2010's is a monumental task, and although he obviously couldn't be expected to repeat he gave his best effort. Pure pop bliss. Crisp engineering. Incredible drums. Catchy melodies. Replay value. And a handful of the best songs of the year.
Rounding Out The Top 5
Bjork "Vulnicura"
--Bjork pouring her heart out over stuttering Arca beats? A match made in heaven
Jamie XX "In Colour"
--The second half of this album is insane. This was so close to being an instant classic, and instead it will have to settle on being just a future classic
Joanna Newsom "Divers"
--Yet another critically acclaimed artist who may have dropped the best album of their career. At the very least, its the most accessible. Typical stellar lyricism, but much more muscially to-the-point than her past albums.
