I remember my pops came to visit my bro and I from Kenya couple years ago and decided i'd show him around and knock off a couple errands at the same time. One of the errands involved returning some books back to the lib. So we reach the lib, i walked in, returned books but remembered i had some flicks on reserve. At this time i was on some Peter Sellers/Woody Allen phase so as the attendant is handing the flick to me, he looks at the title which happened to be "What's New Pusscat" and then looked at me like :. i should add of course that my dad's paternal grandfather, the one my grandfather said he tried not to emulate too much, got kicked around a few countries for having different political and religious beliefs and finally settled in the US after a pretty difficult life. so i doubt his world was all that rose-colored, giving him kind of a reason to think shyt was gonna cave in

When my dad land mom split when I was just a kid. Made me older, mentally, earlier than I was supposed to be and I never properly enjoyed my childhood. (edit, but it made me always a more serious and focused person)

My dad has always had a knack for never being serious, but when he gets serious he'll just leave you slightly baffled.

To this day I still don't know much about my dad's side of the family, there's only a few times that stand out which I won't share but it just showed me how sometimes people will go to lengths to forget about the painful or uncomfortable things that have happened in the past, and even how people will try hard to bury their true feelings, and put a brave face on despite all the bullshyt that came before.
