I don't watch Madrid like that tbh so I can't speak on his current form but I followed him a bit in France and was impressed. And he's still relatively young + no serious injuries.
Don't consider him to be a clogger at all. Think he'd do well in England.
He used to be more vertical with his passing, it feels like he's expressly asked to pass sideways in the NT and with Madrid.
