Big question 🙋 so do we run it back with Wink? His defenses are solid but not spectacular. I think the defense under achieved last year and was just ok this year. Wouldn’t be sad to see him walk.

What about Sherrone? Gotta give him one more year right?

I'd run it back with Wink. I think he's doing the best he can with what he has. The defense gradually gets stronger throughout the year and our offense isn't doing the defense any favors. We didn't have the personnel we've had in the past on defense. A game like yesterday you NEED your leading tackler. I like the NFL schemes, so when we do part ways we need to continue to get NFL guys.

The biggest need in the offseason is a game changing WR, or a possession/slot receiver. The offense has to get better. Bryce will be better. Year 2 he'll be able to go through his progressions more. The offensive line should be dominate Babalola will be back.

I don't think Sherrone is on the hot seat either. Sherrone has done a lot for the program that I think people forget. He's young and he's growing. He has shown the ability to win big games and recruit. The grass isn't always greener. We could end up returning to the time period between Lloyd carr and Harbaugh. The whole staff was gutted last year and coming off drafting 13 players, a program record. Left us with no playmakers on offense, no coaching staff. I know people don't want to hear it but our young players are still developing. We can't compare this moment in time to teams that had 13 draft picks and was historically the best team we've ever had. He makes some mistakes like leaving Semaj in too long, but did eventually find Marsh.

I don't think we had great pass rushers. Moore is good but not twitchy. Doesn't have bend.

Barham was vastly overrated. Without being able to pressure with just 4 it gave QB plenty of time to attack our young secondary. So I'm not sure what to do with Wink. Not his biggest fan. He blitzes way too much at times.

Who is out there to replace Wink?

Man it was weird like he had more of an impact at LB than EDGE. At first it was like EDGE seemed like a great move. But he was quiet the second half the year with explosive plays it seemed.

IMO

Portal: IDL (1 elite and 1 starter), nickel (1 starter), 2 WR (1 elite and 1 starter), 1 TE (1 starter since Hansen isnt reliable and Klein is mid) , entire new special teams

Fire special teams coach. Fine with retaining Wink, the WR coach and Chip Lindsey but take an upgrade if it presents itself.

We gotta keep it real about Harbaugh. He really hurt the program. When he left he took damn near the entire staff. Moore got a late start in the portal his first year cuz we won the championship.

More importantly the last 3 years of Harbaugh flirting with the NFL hurt recruiting. It just dawned on me how mentally tough that championship team was cuz I would be hurt if my coach kept flirting with the nfl.

Look at the 2023 recruiting class. That class is an absolute bust. That's why we played so many young guys

2024 was the last class with Harbaugh and that looks like a bust as well except for Marshall

I disagree the defense did not get better throughout the year. They consistently miss tackles which never happened in the years before. They lack fundamentals.

We need an entire defensive line of game changers. WR comes after that.

No, he makes a lot of mistakes. His clock management is terrible and all that rotating a bunch of guys in stuff this year made no sense. I don’t even know if he’s a great recruiter or had great NIL.

It’s because he is a linebacker and they changed his position and he’s much better a overwhelming interior lineman and RBs and hanging out in the middle of the field. His position was moved because we lacked anyone outside of Moore. We did him a disservice.

Michigan hasn't had a 1000 yard receiver since 2013. For the good chunk of the year, our guys couldn't even do the basic task of catching the football.

As a freshman in 2004, Chad Henne had Braylon Edwards and Jason Avant as his top two receivers (both of whom had 1k+ seasons at Michigan). Two upperclassmen who were already highly productive the previous year.

Bryce has a true freshman as his best receiver and outside of Mcculley, a core of other guys who wouldn't even start on most teams in the Top 25.

Michigan needs to find balance in its offense and that starts with having multiple talented and PRODUCTIVE options at receiver. Until we do that, we’ll never be perennial contenders.
