There is an insane amount of money pouring into sports cards right now and we should have a thread to talk about it. The past two years in particular has seen incredible growth in the sports card industry. Every high profile star across the four major sports has up arrows next to their cards.

The biggest stars like MJ, Kobe, LeBron, Trout and Brady have REALLY ticked up. New stars like Luka, Zion, Giannis, Acuna and Mahomes are getting a ton of money thrown at them too.

A few of us like @Codeine Fiend Dream Team @Flight @Get These Nets @thashiek @btd623 @dark_matter are into the hobby and can answer questions but don't fill this thread with "is my one _____ card from 1993 worth anything" type questions that some of you bozos like to ask whenever cards are discussed. :comeon:

We can tell you which brands are your best bets, whether it's low end or high end. Players whose cards are rising and falling. Personal opinions on under the radar guys, etc.

I'm mainly a Kobe collector but I follow most everything and pick up others as well. Here's a few cards from my personal collection:

There aren't as many companies producing cards anymore. Every sport basically has an exclusive license with someone.

Panini is the only company with an NBA license. They also have an exclusive NFL contract as well.

Topps is the only company with an MLB license.

Upper Deck only does NHL now and they're the only one with that license.

Just recently got back into the hobby last year. Due to Luka. Collected a ton of dude. Only wish I had collected more. Hobby filled with middle aged cac collectors has made Luka RCs more in demand that anyone could have imagined.

Here's just a few of the valuable ones in my collection

Collect to sell. I’m in this for the money, breh. Consider it a fun little hobby and side hustle.

But Luka and Mahomes are long term investments for me. I’ll colllect and hold them for at least 3-5 years. Minimum.

So whats the best brand to buy for NBA and NFL cards if i wanna look for value?

Liked @Regular_P said, only Panini is the official trading card partner of the NFL and NBA

If you want Jordan, LeBron, or Simmons autos, you’ll have to go to Upper Deck, however. They signed exclusive deals with them. They still make panini cards for LeBron and Simmons. But no autos or memorabilia.

As far as product:

Prizm (already released a month ago, hobby boxes are stupid expensive, retail packs are always sold out at Wal-Mart and Target but still worth checking). Prizm is the “standard” set for NFL and NBA

Optic - drops this coming week. Panini Donruss Optic is tremendous value. Their Rated Rookie holos have become very valuable. Keep an eye out. Optic has quickly began to battle Prizm as the “standard” set amongst NFL and NBA collectors in the last 1-2 years. Specifically because of the Rated Rookie cards.

And remember, the one you want is donruss OPTIC, not regular donruss

Panini Chronicles is good. Releases later this year (close to late spring). This can be had at your local Targets and Wal Marts

Those are probably your best 3 retail, affordable brands

Contenders is solid, but you only get one hit per box. And it’s a lot and lot of filler. Contenders Optic can be pretty good. That drops later this year. Both of these sets are for NFL and NBA
