Why is this significant - Why is this a separate thread from the discussion thread

Well . . I've been looking forward to a new Despite great admiration of Dr. Dre I am also notable for being completely impartial and unobjectified in whatever I speak about

This is a conversation led by Wally Russell

How did I pregame for this listening session? - I listened to both Dr. Dre albums, and the compilation album. Sound is one of the five senses. . and like any of the senses it isn't immune to fatigue. When you smell a lot og colognes you need to refresh your sense of smell by smell a jar of coffee beans. So to give my ears a break from the music I've known my whole life I took a listen to DJ Quik's latest album, Midnight Life in it's entirety - this gives me an opportunity to listen to two producer-driven projects and offer a compare and contrast that'll keep things in perspective as I go through the Dr. Dre album . . is it really next level?

Here we go . . Keep in mind, this project means more to me than it does to any of you. Dr. Dre is the #1 prophet of my lifetime . . It's hard to be a fan of Dr. Dre, especially in recent years with the inactivity

So here we go, in just a few moments we shall commence a track by track review, by Wally Russell

1. "Intro" . .
Cinematic in approach, as far as the message - I've been saying this for years . . the reputation of Compton is largely in-part to Jewish record executives profiting off an image they've created for young blacks in the area. I bet when the housing values drop their friends buy up property and rent it out

2. "Talk About It"
A strong opener, definitely a departure from what we're use to in Dre. A cool flow for Dre on this one. King Mez definitely has a nice showing on here. Showing a lot of vocal appeal and character in his verse

3. "Genocide"

A nice sound produced here. Dre's voice is almost mistakable for someone else. For better or worse Kendrick is doing what he always does. The song is mostly noted for the production and mixing. The drums are hitting nice.

4. "It's All On Me"

The Drake clone is put on display here. A safe hook for him to be put on. Dr. Dre is going down memory lane on this one. That'll probably make this a notable song. It should be noted that the Drake clone is benefiting from a lot of Melodyne treatment on his voice. He's probably working with a vocal coach right now to clean him up

5. "All In A Day"
A classic Dre bassline in here . . reminiscent of "bytch nikkas" from 2001 . . overall the track is forgettable and the chorus sounds like it could be an Aloe Blacc track

6. "Darkside/Gone"
Dr. Dre does a better job of being abstract on here than Kanye West has been trying to do with his overworked music. I can tell from the title that Dr. Dre is gonna pull off a switch-up here. A shoutout to Eazy . . the Eazy-E vocal on here is dope as fukk. The switch-up happened . . no musical transition . . almost just went into it. Dr. Dre's vocals are unrecognizable as he comes in but then you begin to realize .. "Oh ya, that's Dre"

7. "Loose Cannons"
Straight up . . Production wise, this track sounds like it's ready for an EA Sports game. Lyrically it's a lot like a Tech N9ne track, had it been produced by Dre during the MMLP era. . . Concept wise - If you don't know what's going on here . . look into the story of Earl Hayes

8. "Issues"
We've finally got the Ice Cube track. It seems like Dre has a thing for either directing vocalist or mixing vocalist to sound different initially and then vocally move into what we recognize them as - the vocals come in and you realize Dre has been listening to Future but didn't want him on his album. Wanted someone who sounded more vocally coherent - this is why Dre doesn't work with Gucci Mane. Dr. Dre's verse is kind of superfluous

9."Deep Water"

Another spot for the Drake clone . . will he have a verse on this one? Dude's vocals on the interlude should be paying a royalty to Yelawolf - Dre, why not just use Yelawolf? Not gonna co-sign Eminem's A&R skills? Kendrick's verse has momentum. Another skit on the track that sounds like Dre is trying to recreate the musical success of the MMLP era. This album should've been produced for Eminem

10. "One Shot One Kill"
I have no idea what's going on with Snoop's verse. Is that Dre over it? Who else is featured on this? . . realizing . . that's Jon Connor

11. Just Another Day
Game . . . did his thing - his album is gonna be hotter then this - he might not be a writer but he's a world-class performer and fame-chaser. Rihanna knock-off on the hook

12. "For The Love of Money"
Is Ruthless Records getting money off this sample?

- whoever is talking about running game on bytches for the first verse, mark my words - this dude has a throwaway career - he's talking about running game but literally spits no game. This guy has no appeal. Who is this? This guy will be forgettable. . . went to check the credits on this one - assuming it's Jon Connor . . ya dude, I'm not saying quit but find a way to be appealing. You gave up a huge spot here

13. "Satisfiction"
This track could've been a True Religion commercial . . Dre coulda bought the brand . . but the brand prolly doesn't have a future.
Anyway - Dre has a nice opener. King Mez sounding like a better version of a black rapper influenced by early-Eminem than Hopsin is . . he literally sounds like he has potential and this album was a nice spot for him. It's clear to see that the Drake clone was just on this album as a favor for someone. King Mez sounds like he has potential. He have a Dre produced album in the works? Don't be surprised

- Snoop sounding like he coming on dissing King Mez :mjlol:
