Alex the Grey Parrot. The only non-human animal ever to ask an existential question.
by lassann · a day ago
While his owner and trainer, Dr. Irene Pepperberg was teaching him different colors, he looked down at himself and asked, "What color am I?" Pepperberg quickly said, "Grey." She had to say it 6 times, and then he said, "I'm grey." Apes have been taught sign language, but no ape has ever asked a single question. Pepperberg estimated that Alex, who died in 2007, was as smart as a 5-year-old human. There may not be a video of him asking this question. Here are a few: Alex's last words were, "You be good. See you tomorrow. I love you."
