Dr. King speaking on how the United States government help create a strong middle class for citizens of European dissent while neglecting citizens of African dissent. Nowadays, certain political groups want to call it "Welfare State", "living off the government" or just "laziness" when certain people in our country need assistance. But the facts are, there have been numerous acts of Congress that helped create generational wealth for those of European dissent here in the United States.
So the next time you hear somebody ranting and complaining about how a certain sector of our population is lazy and need government assistance, remind them of the assistance their families most likely received. Encourage them to pull up their boot straps, take a stand against governmental assistance and give back all that they and their families have received, including the LAND. Let's see how much some of these folks are against government hand outs
-Acts of Congress that created enormous wealth of citizens of European dissent. These are what Dr. King was referring to:
1630's- Head Right Program
Gave 50 acres of land and tools to any European who came to America.
The Homestead Act- 240 million acres of FREE land was given to Whites ONLY.
An estimated 20-50 million Americans today are directly benefitting from this Act. Not one family wanting smaller government has returned the land to the government.
1930's -1960's
Government creates FHA, VA. Home ownership program. Federal government/ tax payers guarantees home loans against default. Melanoid tax payers funded this program but received no benefits. This program was almost exclusively WHITES ONLY until the late 1960's.
GI Bill Of Rights- Touted as a plan to help returning war veterans get an education and employment. In 1944 , when the Bill was introduced, employers and universities could legally discriminate against someone based on race so an overwhelmingly number of the G.I. Bill benefits went to white veterans only.
These were not called welfare, they were termed Nation Building! Imagine that!
