IT WAS ALL GOOD WHEN LOW LEVEL JOBS WERE GETTING REPLACED. NOW WHITE COLLAR FOLKS ARE WORRIED. EVENTUALLY, THERE WILL BE NO SAFE JOBS.
First they came for the fast food workers,
replaced by screens on kiosks,
and I did not speak out—
because I wasn’t flipping burgers.
Then they came for the cashiers,
self-checkouts humming without pause,
and I did not speak out—
because I scanned my own groceries.
Then they came for the drivers,
with cars that drove themselves,
and I did not speak out—
because I liked the convenience.
Then they came for the warehouse workers,
machines lifting, sorting, packing—
and I did not speak out—
because my orders still arrived on time.
Then they came for the white-collar jobs,
accountants, writers, analysts, coders—
and there was no one left to speak for me.
