Still does if you listen to the right artists...

Maaaaaaaan. KRS was one of the top dogs when that album dropped. Top dogs aren't doing this anymore. That Edutainment album made you question eating beef and pointed out the issue with house n*ggas. KRS pointed out how Lincoln never freed the slaves and destroyed Leona Helmsley's image as something worth being acknowledged amongst many other things. That album would leave me feeling like I had just come out of a NOI or Nation Of Gods and Earths service....The last album that put me in a zone of actually feeling like the artist is concerned with my mental well being was Stic mans "The Workout" and that album was slept on...Stic man isn't a top dog in the game. I'm refering to when top dogs had you thinking on issues.

Agreed. Brother Ali and Vinnie Paz come to mind.

Like I said...I was refering to top dogs....Not taking away from those 2 but they are underground artists unlike what Public Enemy, Brand Nubiuans, BDP or even Ice Cube were during their prime.

By and large you're right but Nas did drop Distant Relatives. Jay Z does have some thought provoking songs here and there like New Day and Minority Report. Although sometimes they do seem a lil force.

LOL @ Jay Z. Jay Z doesnt make songs that makes me think......jay Z makes songs that make me wanna bop when I'm drunk. Nas is 1 dude in a sea of mediocrity. Unlike when Edutainement dropped and there was an abundance of rappers dropping gems. X Clan, Poor Righteoues Teachers, Kam....Nas represents what Big daddy Kane was in the late 80's early 90's.....He'll drop a jewel here and there and then get on some lyrical sh*t. Thats where we are now....we have 1 Big daddy Kane and no Chuck D's. KRS is still dropping gems but he has been pushed to underground status.

I don't think top dogs is the right word, that implies not top artists. But mainstream artists aren't really doing it bar Nas no. Jay occasionally but not enough. But that is systematically put into place. But other greatest are doing it. Even a group like Atmospshere are HUGE and pretty successful and they drop thought provoking shyt.
