They all want to play for their cultural homelands, but those countries try to extort them into paying fees. Just look at what Mbappe's father said

i appreciate them nikka am big football fan(not soccer lol) i know 99% of those players...but i find it strange to be all happy for dudes representing a nation that more than likely hates them, specially when the fukk up on the pitch lol do u though but do u nikkas if makes ya'll feel happy inside.

It's more pragmatic than this. None of their individual African teams are competitive enough to get them a cup. It's kinda like how NBA players ignore their home state teams in favor of moving to Lakers, Golden State, NYC, heat,etc.
You effectively took the best players of French speaking Africa and put them on a squad. It's like having Steph, LeBron, Durant, west brook all on golden State at the same time. Obviously they can win finals.
currently, France is like the LeBron era Miami heat, or the Kobe era Lakers.

ohhh so u nikkas really thing they picked france, or germany or whatever because of the cup??? i guess, but they have a better chance in theory to play in the african nations cuzz the talent is not the same so if they stayed in ghana for example they have a much greater chance of getting in that squad than the german or french for example.
dont compare this to the nba lol national team players get called up according to their nationality, if the player is dual then he chooses, nba nikkas go where they get drafted too and who is paying more as a F.A. anyway is whatever props to france, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer i guess
I asked actual Africans how they felt about this and this was their common response. This isn't speculation on my part. The topic came up when I came across an Ethiopian at coffee shop and this was his arguement. Similarly this topic came up during an Uber with a Guinean (the African guinea) driver and he told me the same thing. And finally, I spoke to a Kenyan/Somalian duo during the Olympics, when Jamaica and US were doing track, and got the exact same response when I brought it up.
I tried preaching the hotep gospel to them also, but this is actually how Africans feel. It's a conscious choice to be on the winning team.
And also, these are the best players in the world. They don't need an easy ticket to be on an African team. It's counterintuitive. Think of Senegal which basically had just 2 professional euro league players on a squad of 15(including subs). When Sade Mane got injured it was an immediate game over for the entire squad . This is the kinda stuff they avoid when they play for a euro country. A single injury from a Senegalese means nothing when there is a world class Algerian or Cameroonian or Congolese that can take his spot .

Let me add to your post: African countries also don’t care about young African players in diaspora until they become established stars (that’s when they always start trying to reap from what they contributed zilch). The only outlier have seen recently is Hannibal & Tunisia.
There was a meme on Twitter about Mbappe’s dad personally taking him to Cameroon to play for the country before he was capped by France but Cameroon officials ask for a bribe, for the guy to represent them. That’s just lunacy.
Currently, the UK has 2 very gifted teenagers Nigeria can lure to play for them & cap early. But they won’t do that until they become established & playing for England is the more attractive options. And people would blame the players for opting to play for colonisers.

These are just 2 out of the tens of them all over England. But no one will claim them until they’re established stars & are already capped by England.
African federations need a scouting department they’ll show interest in these players while they’re still playing age-group competitions & develop a rapport/relationship with them & their parents. I think Senegal & Morocco are probably the on 2 countries trying a bit cos about 70% of their players are born in Europe.
