Unfortunately, yeah

It seems everyone is angry. The culture wars start when people aren’t doing well economically. It’s not absurd at all.

Then having a black man as POTUS, and shyt went to hyper drive.

But why be mad at some shyt you don't control? Can't control lay offs, stocks, women, etc.

Maybe this is the real reason?

If you read the article, it addresses that. Extreme polarized attitudes took a marked spike from 00 until now. Economic conditions over that period have not worsened.

During that period, economic conditions (wages, unemployment) haven’t gotten worse, in fact they’ve gotten better. The only significant change in racial attitudes over that period was white Republicans seeing more anti-white bias.
We had a had a recession where many people lost their homes and their wealth and we never recovered from that.

Also that article doesn’t mention wage growth versus inflation.

I don’t deny that social media and especially Fox News have contributed to the anger, but people who are economically comfortable usually don’t worry about the culture wars.

Wtf. It's awful out here wtf you mean it hasn't gotten worse. People need to stop reading papers like autosts and talk to the blue collar workers of America. They're getting crushed.

That is not true at all. In fact the opposite is true. White people who are comfortably middle class are the most concerned about culture wars. Those are primarily the people who consume Fox News and vote Republicans. Poor white people usually don’t care about politics one way or the other just like poor people of any of race.

I know people are getting crushed but people been getting crushed since late 70ish. How materially worse are peoples’ lives today than in 2000?

The point is economic differences wouldn’t account for extreme polarization that has taken place. Peoples’ reported happiness and job satisfaction have remained the same over that time, as have the number of people looking for a job who want to work.

There was a recession in 08, but that doesn’t account for the extreme disparity in polarized political sentiment from 00-08, before both Obama and the recession.

This was always gonna happen...:sas2: only so long the country can squeeze people, embolden racism, punish the poor and keep black folks on the bottom so white folks and their lackeys can succeed. It was always gonna come to a flashpoint. And we're in the beginning of it...:francis: these folks are showing y'all who they was when they ran up in the capitol and the white govt did nothing to punish them for it...:manny:

White power, after the 80s things started to shift. More blacks where becoming college educated and taking jobs from uneducated whites.

In the 90s blacks started to actually come into a stride for our power. Media and black dollars became a big driver for this.

In the 2000s 9/11 was a big distraction for a lot of whites who where being squeezed down into less desirable economic conditions. Then Obama was elected president. This basically gas lit white supremacy into action.

In the 2010s social media became a driver for both spectrums putting them in the for front. Opening everyone’s eyes to the future demographic of this country.

I believe in the 20s because of trump and feminism we might see some slow progress for blacks but only because of the final push from old white men and their dying power.

It's really about Obama.

A lot of people at the time (including myself) didn't realize how paranoid and crazy white America would get after having a black president.
It’s really not though. The right wing went nuts in the 2000 before Obama. He just raised the level of crazy. 9/11 was a big factor too though. The right was already firmly embedded in crazytown before Obama. Look at Bill O’Reilly’s show circa 2000 as an indicator. The mainstreaming of this proto-fascist otherization of all “libruls” or whoever as enemies of America, as well as a complete unmooring of factual accuracy from news reporting was directly a product of Fox. That was not really part of mainstream political debate before Fox.

Well they spent 7 years telling us that everyone with a Muslim sounding name was the devil.

Then a black man with a Muslim sounding name became president
