Interesting story I read in ESPN mag.
Bobby Riggs, a professional US tennis player goes over to England to play in Wimbledon for the first time in 1949. He's playing singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. He sees his odds of winning each one, and he's not the favorite in each one. So, he bets on a trifecta that he would win all three, odds even bigger. Now, in doubles and mixed doubles, you are partially dependent on your partner to win.
He wins all three and goes home with what was then $105,000 USD . That's 1949 money, which translates to like 1.5 milly in today's money.
