its become too multi-faceted... twenty years ago hip hop was just about the music, then the last decade it was about the entertainment/personality side of it.

So rappers these days are trying to balance all this shyt.. they have to charisma and be an intriguing character, but also they need to put out quality music.... and, in addition, they have to have a gimmick to appeal to the internet culture

Haha alot of people I know said that about him, it was kind of annoying.. and the industry was definitely pushing that sentiment.

Not to take away from the greatness of GKMC, it is a really good album.

Not to take away from the greatness of GKMC, it is a really good album.

I'm not sure if the industry was pushing him as the saviour...it's more like, the fans sorta placed that on him after seeing his potential as a rapper that can rap, in an era that is saturated with whack dudes in the mainstream (Save a few)

A gimmick is more like what A$AP Rocky, Trinidad James do. A$AP tries to be this feaux fashion connaiseur and Trinidad James is a Jerome ripoff.

I don't think new school hip hop is terrible, just that it could be sooooo much better considering how much creative freedom artists have these days.
