Arizona Cardinals sign running back Chris Johnson - NFL.com

Arizona Cardinals sign running back Chris Johnson

Chris Johnson is back in the NFL. He has less than three weeks to prove he still belongs.

The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to terms with Johnson, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported according to a source informed of the situation. Jay Glazer of FOX first reported the story.

Johnson will try to earn a spot on the team behind starter Andre Ellington. The opportunity opened up in large part because rookie third round pick David Johnson has been unable to practice throughout camp because of a hamstring injury.

It's hard to believe but there was legitimately a time in NFL history where folks argued whether Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson was the best running back in the league. That came after Johnson's 2000-yard campaign in 2009, a feat that the former Tennessee Titans has been chasing ever since.

The reality is that Johnson was never great at making defenders miss in small spaces, and he doesn't fight through tackles between the numbers. He's a boom or bust runner that combines a lot of one-yard gains with the occasional big play. The Cardinals already have a big play threat in Ellington, and really need a chain-mover that could help on third downs. Johnson was workmanlike as a member of the Jets last year, where he got 179 touches.

With final cutdowns only a few weeks away, Johnson will have to impress coach Bruce Arians quickly to make the team. Johnson is certainly not going to help on special teams, so he has to make the case that he can share the load with Ellington.

CJ has caught way more criticism than he deserves imo. Not a fan of the cards, but I hope CJ makes the team.

I'm salty? :mjlol: I got love for real cards fans like @MooseMouthMthafuga
You're a player Stanley. once Carson is off the cards you won't ever be making these threads again. You'll hop off the bandwagon faster than Usain bolt.

Once Carson is off the cards will you still root for them? :heh: I wish he retires this year so you can stop watching football as well.

Op is a clown who used to be a Bengals 'fan' solely on account of Palmer being on their squad :mjlol:
Stop trying to derail his thread and focus on the topic at hand :comeon:

I think Carson has a chance to be the best pure throwing QB in the division. What's his comp? Nick Foles?Squidward?....While I'd take Russ over Carson every time, I wouldn't be surprised if Carson put up better numbers....I think Carson could do 4,300 yds 28 td's with a 65% completion rate.

I think Darryl is done with the Cards. What a fukking tragedy:mjcry:.Dude might be the best ILB in the game.I'm not being a homer by saying that.He was dynamic/underrated as shyt.A few years back when we had him and Karlos Dansby in the middle:wow:

I think the defensive backfield will be better.Badger back to 100%, Deone Bucannon with another year under his belt, and Patrick Peterson supposedly over his diabetic issues. We're probably the deepest team in the league at Safety.Tony Jefferson is solid...Rashad Johnson got a few Pro Bowl votes...Badger...Deone Bucannon. We're good there.I think Jerraud Powers will do a good job filling in for Antonio Cromartie.Powers is starting material.

I don't trust the LB's...Sean Weatherspoon is Mr.Glass...Lorenzo Alexander:gag:...Kevin "bust" Minter:gag::gag:.The only dude I have faith in is Alex Okafor from the rush position.I think he's solid. But man...if Weatherspoon was healthy..and we had D Wash coming back:ohlawd:

I'm not sold on the O line as of yet.Iupati is a beast when it comes to run blocking, but he's average when it comes to pass blocking.Skeptical about Jonathan Cooper @ RG....Our Centers are below average....and at RT, we have an alcoholic in Bobby Massie....backing him up is rookie DJ Humphries.

Honestly, I could see this line being average at best.

Definitely not the best O line in team history. That mid to late 70's line with Dan Dierdorf & Conrad Dobler >>> this one

Even some of those early 90's Joe Bugel lines led by Luis Sharpe >>>>

I think our line in '08 was underrated. No big names, but they kept Kurt Warner clean, and got us to the Super Bowl.

This line has a lot of potential. If Johnathan Cooper(#7 pick overall---crazy for a Guard) and Dj Humphries(24th overall) can play up to their potential, I think this will definitely be the best line since '08.

Chris Johnson might be ready to have that career resurgence if that happens:lupe:
