Dwayne Johnson will play Mark Kerr, the legendary MMA fighter from the no-holds barred era of UFC, in A24‘s The Smashing Machine.

The movie, which the studio is producing and financing, puts them back in business with Benny Safdie, who co-directed and co-wrote one of their big hits, Uncut Gems ($50 million at the domestic box office). Safdie also wrote the script for The Smashing Machine.

Johnson and Safdie have been collaborators on the project since Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions acquired rights in 2019. The pic will follow Kerr’s struggle with addiction, winning, love and friendship in the year 2000.

I'd rather see The Rock portray Gary Goodridge or Kevin Randleman, but a check's a check, I guess.

Rock in an A24 film is something I just gotta see....almost as interesting as the one time we were this damn close to getting Rock a full fledged role in a Tyler Perry flick...(the cameo doesn't count)....

His ego is something else.
That said he looks nothing like Kerr.

Eh… if he was younger I'd say it's close enough. The problem is Dwayne been playing the same role for what 10-15 years now. Can he display any kind of range?

This is stupid, actually why would there be a movie about Mark Kerr and why should famous actors be in it???

Hearing Mark Kerr's name reminds me of that worst MMA promo ever :mjlol:

Nope he can't and no one buys him when he tries.
I can't see him playing Kerr in a real manner on top of the age issue.

Physically there are few actors who can play Mark Kerr and Rock is one of them. This will be interesting.
