I like the way they've morphed into doing a sort of hip-hop blues. Black Thought, Dice Raw, Greg Porn, all the other guests have been rapping about struggle, stress, and despair in a very realistic way minus all the typical bragging, machismo, and formulaic shyt you normally hear in hip-hop.

Perhaps, but they needed to update their content to still make good music and not be stale. Black Thought can't just keep mostly relying on lyrical braggadocio raps forever. They've artistically progressed remarkably.

My main issue with the roots began when dice raw and malik b stopped appearing as often. I know there were reasons, but the quality of their hip hop fell off for me. Their last three albums have been adventurous musically, but still black thought, he's a great mc but the poster child for "switch up your flow". He has the same energy and flow on like every track. There's exceptions and great tracks but he can't carry the group for me.

Yeah, the last three were better than their mid career stuff. After things fall apart they struggled for me until HIGO.

It's got a few really good songs on it, but it's only 11 tracks and some of them are singing and other nonsense. They didn't give the fans their money's worth with it.

Maybe I'll give it another listen. Someone at work said the same thing.

I love the song I Will Not Apologize. It's not on youtube or some reason.
