“You see, for a long time the negro has been sold a lot of shoddy, second class merchandise. So now he asks for name brands, to make sure he gets his money’s worth. Buying by brand, that’s the first important negro buying habit”

We've been exploited from the very beginning. Slavery was an economic arrangement and racism was born to justify our continued exploitation. If they ever recognized our humanity, that would mean having to give up a source of free labour. Slavery still exists because the mindset of "I want others to do the work I wont so I can hoard the profits" has never gone away.

How many of us are in jail because we realized that the only way to make money consistently was to sell weed, meanwhile there are white men getting rich off of it now that it's legal in many states?

How many of us are locked up because of small charges that could've been easily dismissed?

How many of us are working jobs with no chance for upward movement so we can have our basic needs met?

In order for the u.s. to exist in it's current form, someone has to be kept down and it turns out its us. They want us to make enough money to buy all sorts of junk but never enough that we can start saving for post secondary education or starting more of our own businesses. Marketers push entertainment with nihilistic messaging on us so we give up our will to look longitudinally, they encourage short term thinking and living in the moment.

I think these days there ARE more black people supporting black businesses and saving their money. There are more black people using online courses and starting their own online businesses. It's easier than ever in human history to work for yourself and we're seeing more people who see through marketing attempts.

From the comments "I don't know if anyone noticed but, this film was made in association with the Johnson Publishing Co. publishers of Ebony magazine (See - 1.07 ) and goes on to emphasize repeatedly the influence of the magazine amongst black readers (See 15.24). This film was clearly made to increase the advertisement revenue of Ebony magazine by making it seem like it had a monopoly of influence on the African American consumer market."

Ebony Magazine being complicit dam:mjcry:
