That’s not how you judge if a trade is fair or not. The Grizzles wanted to rebuild. So they traded for assets that would help them for the future. In 1996 everyone at the time thought the Hornets got a steal when they traded a HS player named Kobe Bryant for one of the best centers in the NBA in Vlade Divac. Do you still view that as a steal for the Hornets even though at the time of the trade Vlade was the much better player? That trade is now considered one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history. When you are trading for young players, draft picks etc. sometimes it takes years before you find out if it was a good trade or not. You judge a trade by the end results. It’s the same thing when you draft players.the Pau Gasol was not fair when it was done. Thats not even debatable fam. Whenever a deal is centered around one of the absolute worst players in the league, its lopsided.
Considering Bynum has put up 1 20 point game since the trade, that trade was a steal. The fact he left had nothing to do with Mitch. By the way who drafted Bynum fresh out of high school?
The Chris Paul trade didnt happen, but was agreed to by both GM's. It was essentially a deal. So yes I give him credit for that
you dudes are scapegoating Mitch for no fukkin reason. He's regarded as one of the best GM and negotiators by his peers for a reason. Judging him for this year's body of work is laughable. He's done good all things considered, and this is the first year in a LONG time we didnt have a competitive roster. And I dont know one single Laker fan who was upset with Steve Nash move at the time. Not one. He was coming off a 12 and 10 season, and we had no PG. Every Laker fan liked that move. It wasnt until Steve was defeated by father time that folks started tripping.
btw, Another brilliant move by Mitch was flipping Mo Evans and Brian Cook for Trevor Ariza.
He also refused to flip Bynum for Kidd, which turned out to be a brilliant decision as well.
Dude shouldnt be fighting for his job. I fully trust him and his ambition to put together talented teams.
In 2007 Marc Gasol was an overweight center, but he was still projected to go late in the first round, but teams passed him up, because he had conditioning issues. In 2008 before we traded him. He lost weight and blew up in the Spanish league and won MVP. If he had declared for the draft just a year later he would have been a lock for the top 10. Kwame was an expiring contract. They traded for his contract, not Kwame the player. They then used his expiring contract to clear cap space to trade for Zach Randolf.
Let’s say we traded Pau to the Magic at the trade deadline for their #1 pick this year. Would you say it was a steal for the Magic? Even though at the time of the trade we gave up the best player?
Its funny how you are judging the Dwight trade by the end results. At the time of the trade a lot of Laker fans thought it was lateral move. Bynum was coming off his first healthy all-star season and Dwight was coming off major back surgery. But does that even matter now? Dwight plays for the Rockets.
Mitch wanted to draft Sean May in 2005. He went on record and said so himself. Now you’re really trying to give him credit for the Bynum pick?
The Chris Paul trade would have been by far his best move, but it didn’t happen. So he gets zero credit there. He still could have come out of it looking good, but he managed to fukk up there too. By trading Lamar coming off the best year of his career for a top 20 protected pick and a trade exception and by not trading Pau to the Rockets for Dragic, Martin, Scola and picks.
sounds like they're planning on keeping both pringles/ears and making him the starting PG
