What's y'all audio system setup like?
I'm no audiophile but one thing I noticed off the bat was improved sound quality for next gen games. Games like TLOU Remastered, Infamous Second Son and recently Driveclub wowed me when it came to how crisp and clear the sound effects were.
The sound profiles for the PS Gold headsets made a world of difference when it comes to that also.
Today, I just got a new receiver and before that I had my PS4 and PC hooked up to the receiver via optical cables and all I could get is DTS 5.1 surround sound. I thought that was the best or so. Today after hooking up the new receiver, I plugged in the PS4 and Wii U through HDMI out since I no longer needed optical out. Also before doing this, the receiver came with a calibration mic that when plugged in listens to some test tones it sends to the speakers to calibrate it properly.
I IMMEDIATELY noticed a difference in sound. I thought it was just a placebo effect so I threw on a song i had on my USB stick in the game and even the music sounded better. I cut it off and went in game and realized I wasn't delusional.
The cars, crowds and ambient sounds and lastly the music sounded damn near perfect.
I usually would lower the sfx volume in DC and up the music volume to hear the soundtrack but today the sfx was already at 90% with the music at 100% and it sounded so damn good
The car's engine and braking sounded so fukking good. I remember hearing about all the work that was put into the audio for Larryclub and when I got it I thought it sounded great don't get me wrong but I found myself trying to lower music or whatnot to hear it better. Now, it sounds exactly like how I thought it should sound.
@lutha I just fired up Infamous First Light and yup I'm not tripping. When you jump off a building and land on the floor, I hear a distinct "thud" sound when I hit the ground. Before, I don't remember hearing that at all.
I did quick research on sound formats and LPCM 5.1 if your receiver supports it is the best option for gaming. It's the raw, uncompressed audio which can only be done through HDMI since it has the available bandwith.
I'm gonna try some more games but I don't think this is a placebo effect. I haven't tried any PC games or Xbox games yet.
It's the least talked about thing in games nowadays and I think it's just as important as anything else. Amazing sound and music can further immerse you into that world.

I changed my sound settings in the PS4 to LPCM 5.1 and loaded up Driveclub and I was blown away.
