Do it. Tanzania / Zanzibar is a great place with a rich cultural history. I've been several times. You can stay in a 5 star hotel in Dar es Salaam for about ~$100-150 a night.
I've had several opportunities to visit SA but the similarities in racial dynamics to America even post-apartheid have made me kinda apathetic about visiting... especially with all the options on the continent.
