Mediocrity is a treadmill in the NBA. you either have to be at the top contending or suck to get high draft picks.
there is an in between where you can improve your team year over year and make bigger moves down the line to push closer to championship contention, it seems to have have as much success as full on tanking, and with the new lottery rules, its even more of a crapshoot

this franchise become a joke around the league to players, we needed to to restore some respectability in the worst way

we just tried the full on tanking thing and it didnt work, we just collected a bunch of 7th picks

I've always felt this way, but I understand the treadmill method. It coerces stars to see you as a destination if you remain competitive. It's how Miami stayed relevant.

But Miami is still Miami, more of a destination than Chicago...

Just to play devil's advocate, we did pick WCJ over MPJ (this one is the most egregious one), Lauri over Donovan Mitchell and Bam Adebayo, and Coby White over Hachimura. Collecting 7th picks wasn't the issue, getting them right was.

But hindsight is 20/20

Did the current office do this or the past?

And don’t do Coby white like that. Hachimura not even worth mentioning

What I'm saying is that the current office might have gotten some picks right if they hung in there and played the long game, actually. But they were more interested in winning now, and I can't blame them for that.

And you right, but Hachimura looks like he has more potential. I actually like Coby more than most in this thread, I wasn't complaining about him at all really.

Tanking is not off the table. But we had a Zach lavine here and I'm sorry with him here we were only on a course to collect more 7th 8th picks no matter who was the front office. So nothing wrong with trying to win with lavine here.

The good thing here, is if this thing reaches its peak and hits a wall , now the front office has better talent to flip for better assets and we can finally tank properly with a terrible roster and a treasure chest full of picks and assets once we flip lavine, coby, Vucevic, ball and Patrick Williams and derozan if we get him. We were not going to get great assets flipping Wendell Carter jr and coby white.

I think this just illustrates the difficulty in trying to draft stars outside of the top 2-3 or so, players get missed every season at that 5-13 level

I just dont know why a Bulls fans would be cool with another complete rebuild right now. We just had the most detestable front office and coach in the entire league, Im cool with us rebuilding our brand around the league

Our closest thing to a meaningful season since DRose left was the '3 alphas' season :snoop:

Instead of shytting on these moves, Im curious to see how they continue to build off of them longer term, I have no delusions about this team contending for a championship next season but yes, a 5th seed would be a huge improvement
