he very well could have been, but a pre-civil rights act republican is not the same as a modern day republican. the southern republicans that most find contemptible were democrats (dixiecrats) back in MLK's day. they know that, but explaining that parties change over time is too complicated for a billboard. these are the same type of people that try to claim hitler wasn't a right wing nutjob because the nazi party had the word socialist in it.

LMAO....notice how when this guy opens with faint praise of MLK and his doctrines of racial harmony he's met with dead silence; you could literally hear a pin drop in there. Once he starts zeroing in on anti black,dog whistling around 45 seconds in the crowd immediately comes alive.

He even has to stop himself from laughing when he mentions the "Martin Luther King (quick smug laugh) holiday"
