Alien before it was connected to outer space just ment foreigner or someone from another country
I understand that, but in the context of dehumanizing a group of people added illegal in the front of it was meant for the person to hear that and think of a lesser human being.

Yea, that's what Americans citizens had in their minds when picturing illegal aliens.

Space mexicans.

Maybe the word alien is not the dehumanizing part. Maybe the word illegal is dehumanizing. I think our society see criminals as less then human.

Origin of Illegal Alien Term

The term "illegal alien" originated from legal and political contexts, particularly in U.S. history. It was used in the context of immigration laws and policies. The term "alien" itself, derived from the Latin word "alienus," originally meant a stranger or foreigner. In legal terms, it refers to any person who is not a citizen or national of a specific country. The term "illegal alien" specifically denotes a foreign national who is in the country without legal permission, either by entering without inspection or by overstaying a visa.25
The use of the term "alien" in U.S. immigration laws dates back to the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798, which targeted foreign-born individuals and allowed the president to expel "aliens" considered dangerous to the peace and safety of the United States.2
Over time, the term "illegal alien" has been criticized for its dehumanizing effect and negative connotations. Efforts have been made to replace it with more neutral terms like "undocumented immigrant" or "non-citizen" to reflect a more humane approach to describing individuals who are in the country without legal authorization.47
In recent years, there has been a push to remove the term "alien" from official government language and documents, as it is seen as derogatory and inappropriate

The term is as American as apple pie & sweet potato
